I feel in a blogging mood today. I'm not quite sure why. I think maybe being back in school just has me in the mood to write.
I don't like how college has become about getting in and out quickly, taking boring or unnecessary classes because that's what your degree needs, and how everyone just does what they're told because they don't realize they have a choice in their education.
I've avoided seeing my adviser as much as possible. I'd rather choose my classes online so I don't have to listen to their advice. I think it's great they're there if I need them, but I'm going to school for myself so I want to take charge of it.
I don't know what I want to major in so I'm going to take the classes I want to take. I've taken a few of the boring gen. ed. type classes but this semester I decided I don't want to do that either (most of my classes do count for my humanities credits though). When I decide what I want to major in I'll take the classes I need to.
This semester I'm taking German, Psychology, Library Cataloging, Art History, and Ballet. I pretty much like all of them so far. They're fun and interesting and different.
So far Psychology is a little boring because I started AP Psychology in high school before I graduated early. I have a pretty good memory so I already know most of what we've covered so far. I know it will get more interesting though.
I love German class a lot! I took German sophomore year of high school (and still remember probably 80% of it!). There's just something about the type of people who take German too. Everyone is friendly and it's a nice relaxed atmosphere.
I wanted to try out a library science class and cataloging was the only one that fit my schedule. It's an online class and there are only 7 of us in it. Parts of it are a little difficult but I do want to try more library classes next semester.
Art History is also online. It's pretty fun and so far fairly simple in format.
Ballet is super fun of course! My class is mostly beginners but my teacher thinks we're all naturals and we've been racing along. I think I'm actually the worst in the class. My corrections have been fairly minor though and I understand what I'm doing so that's reassuring.
